Health Minister inspects Govt. Medical College and Hospital in Udhagamandalam

 

Ahead of the inauguration of the Government Medical College and Hospital in the district by Chief Minister M.K.Stalin on April 6, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian inspected the soon-to-be-opened facility on Sunday.According to the Nilgiris district administration, the Minister inspected the 700-bed hospital and took stock of the facilities. He inspected the emergency care ward, a special in-patient ward for members from the Adivasi community, MRI and CT scan facilities, among others.

He said the Government Medical College and Hospital was built at a cost of ?143.69 crore, and includes a special 50-bed ward for members from the Adivasi community.

Also present during the inspection was Coonoor MLA and Chief Whip of the Tamil Nadu government, K. Ramachandran.

Speaking to reporters following the inspection, the Minister said the State government was investing in public health infrastructure across the state, and had built a 50-bed Government Hospital in Emerald near Udhagamandalam at a cost of ?16.44 crore. Moreover, ?2.66 crore was spent on the Coonoor Government Hospital and ?3.3 crore on the accident and emergency care ward in the Kotagiri Government Hospital.

Earlier, the Minister made a surprise visit to the Upgraded Primary Health Centre at Pogalur on Annur Mettupalayam Road on Sunday morning. The Minister walked into the UPHC at around 8.15 a.m., on his way to the Nilgiris. He spoke to the hospital staff, checked hospital records and availability of medicines. Mr. Subramanian also inspected facilities at the UPHC, including the labour room and postnatal ward, and spoke to a patient over the phone on the treatment received from the UPHC. 

Mr. Subramanian also announced the upgradation of six primary health centres with AYUSH facilities and the construction of four sub-health centres in Mullimalai, Masakkal, Nedikodu, and Selas. He added that two primary health centres would be constructed at a cost of ?1.25 crore in Theppakadu and Ithalar.

Mr. Ramachandran on Saturday participated in a meeting with top officials from the Nilgiris district administration and the police to review preparedness measures being undertaken for the Chief Minister’s visit.
