The Velliangiri foothills witnessed the Mahashivratri celebrations at Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore on Wednesday night, where lakhs gathered for a night-long observance of spiritual sessions, music, and meditation.Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the celebrations and said that Mahashivratri was not just a festival but had scientific significance. He highlighted the Isha’s ‘Save Soil’ movement and its role in preserving culture and awareness on a national scale. While yoga was ancient, he said, it remained relevant today. He further remarked that India’s history was incomplete without Tamil literature and culture, and Tamil Nadu was home to many heritage temples and spiritual sites
Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, founder of Isha Foundation, said yoga aligned the body and mind, and was closely linked to science and technology.
Before addressing the gathering, the Union Minister and Sadhguru toured the center, where the Minister was briefed on the significance of various deities and locations.
On the occasion, Sadhguru launched a free meditation app, ‘Miracle of the Mind,’ which offers a seven-minute meditation practice.
The night featured a series of performances, including music, dance, and cultural expressions by artistes from across India. Midnight meditation and Sadhguru’s discourse were key moments of the celebration.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Governors of Punjab and Odisha, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan, BJP State President K. Annamalai, and former Minister S.P. Velumani were also present at the event.
